Abstract

Vocational college graduates need to master all the skills employers need to be better prepared to meet the challenges and competition of getting a job, because good human capital is a workforce with both academic and job skills. This study examines the relationship between the level of time management of On-The Job Training Vocational College (KV) students and their academic achievement. One of the work skills tested in this study is through time management construct that include project planning, proposal acceptance, analysis and problem solving. This study involved 35 KV students randomly selected from a KV. Questionnaire was used as the instrument. Findings show that the overall level of time management of the students is high. Findings also show that there is no relationship between the level of time management during OJT and students’ academic achievement. The findings implicate that in evaluating potential employees, employers should not predict any of the characteristics of KV graduate’s employability skills through their academic examination results. It is suggested that a further study to be conducted with a larger sample size based on the overall population of KV students in Malaysia to see a larger picture.
