PENGARUH SOKONGAN SOSIAL TERHADAP PEMULIHAN KEAGAMAAN BANDUAN WANITA (The Influence of Social Support on the Religious Rehabilitation of Women Inmates)
Abstract
ABSTRACT
The support of family members and the community is crucial in helping the process of rehabilitation of inmates. Therefore, this study attempts to identify the influence of social support on religious rehabilitation of women inmate. The focus is on religious rehabilitation because the Prisons Department of Malaysia (JPM) has adopted religious approach as one of the main modules in the rehabilitation of women inmates to create more positive individual personality. Quantitative research approach with questionnaire was used. The data were analysed by correlation and regression. The results showed that social support had a signifcant positive relationship with women inmates religious values (r = .206, p <0.05). Family members support (r = .203, p <0.05), peers (r = .260, p <0.05) and JPM staff (r = .174, p <0.05) have signifcant positive relationships with the values of the creed. Regression analysis also showed that friends and family support became a predictor of religious value for women inmates. Therefore, social support to women inmates can help their rehabilitation process especially in reinforcing the faith. The implication of the JPM should be to open space and opportunity for family members to provide social support to women inmates and to encourage inmates to help each other and foster the values of brotherhood between them.
