Hubungan komunikasi keselamatan dengan produktiviti keselamatan dan risiko kemalangan dalam komuniti kerja di tapak pembinaan Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) (Relationship between safety communication, safety productivity, and accident risk among work communities at Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) construction sites)
Abstract

The Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) construction industry faces challenges in safety communication between local supervisors and foreign workers in Malaysia. These challenges affect safety productivity and increase accident risks. This study aims to examine the influence of safety communication barriers on safety productivity and accident risks at MRT construction sites. This quantitative study employed a survey method through questionnaires distributed to 188 local supervisors and 112 Bangladeshi foreign workers at MRT construction sites. Simple random sampling was used by selecting the Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya (SSP) line location. The questionnaire contained constructs of communication types, communication barriers, communication components (perception, knowledge, experience, attitude and emotion), safety productivity and accident risks. The validity and reliability of the instrument were tested before field implementation. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation. Correlation analysis revealed significant and moderate relationships between communication barriers and communication types (r = 0.631, p < 0.05), safety productivity and communication types (r = 0.517, p < 0.05), communication components and communication barriers (r = 0.507, p < 0.05) and safety productivity and communication barriers (r = 0.507, p < 0.05). Significant but weak relationships were found between communication components and communication types (r = 0.316, p < 0.05) and safety productivity and communication components (r = 0.376, p < 0.05). This study contributes to understanding safety communication relationships in the construction industry context involving labor resources within cultural diversity.
