PERSEPSI MAHASISWA OPEN UNIVERSITY MALAYSIA (OUM) TERHADAP KONFLIK POLITIK PALESTIN-ISRAEL

Abstract

Kajian ini adalah bertujuan untuk mengenalpasti dan mengkaji persepsi mahasiswa Open University Malaysia (OUM) terhadap konflik politik Palestin-Israel. Ini adalah kerana kepekaan seseorang mahasiswa terhadap isu semasa mampu melatih mereka menjadi suara pencerah dalam masyarakat. Bagi tujuan kajian ini, terdapat tiga aspek utama kajian iaitu; tahap pengetahuan, pandangan/pendirian, dan hubungan antara tahap pengetahuan dan pandangan/pendirian mahasiswa OUM terhadap konflik politik Palestin-Israel. Ketiga-tiga aspek ini membentuk kepada objektif utama kajian iaitu untuk mengukur persepsi mahasiswa terhadap konflik politik Palestin-Israel. Alat kajian yang digunakan ialah set soal selidik atas talian SurveyMonkey. Seramai 108 orang pelajar OUM terlibat menjadi responden bagi mewakili populasi kajian. Responden-responden ini dipilih secara rawak yang dijemput dari forum atas talian myINSPIRE OUM, dan juga email dalaman OUM. Teknik persampelan yang digunakan ialah teknik persampelan bola-salji untuk mendapatkan saiz sampel yang secukupnya. Data yang diperolehi dianalisis menggunakan kaedah statistik deskriptif dan kaedah statistik inferensi. Perisian Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) versi 21 digunakan untuk menganalisis data. Dapatan kajian mendapati tahap pengetahuan dan pandangan/pendirian mahasiswa OUM terhadap konflik Palestin-Israel adalah tinggi. Rata-rata responden mempunyai pengetahuan yang baik terhadap isu tersebut. Hasil ujian juga mendapati terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara tahap pengetahuan dan pandangan/pendirian. Semakin tinggi tahap pengetahuan mahasiswa terhadap konflik politik Palestin-Israel, semakin baik pandangan/pendirian mereka terhadap isu tersebut. Berdasarkan hasil kajian, dapat disimpulkan bahawa persepsi mahasiswa OUM terhadap konflik politik Palestin-Israel berada di tahap yang positif. Oleh yang demikian, sebagai pewaris pemimpin negara, mahasiswa harus ke hadapan dalam mencerahkan konflik politik Palestin-Israel kepada masyarakat supaya isu tersebut dapat difahami dengan jelas dan tepat.

This study aims to identify and examine the perception of Open Universiti Malaysia students on political conflict of Palestine-Israel. The awareness of a students to current issues can train them to become a voice in the society. For the purposes of this study, there are three main aspects of the study: level of knowledge, views/opinion, and the relationship between the level of knowledge and the views/opinion on the Palestine-Israel political conflict. These three aspects form the main objectives of the study, namely to measure student perceptions of the Palestine-Israel political conflict. The survey tool used is SurveyMonkey's online survey set. A total of 108 OUM students are involved as respondents to represent the population of the study. These respondents were randomly selected from those invited from myINSPIRE OUM on-line forums, as well as OUM's internal email. The sampling technique used is snowball sampling technique to obtain sufficient sample size. The data obtained 

were analyzed using descriptive statistical method and inferential statistical method. Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 21 is used to analyze data. The findings show that the level of knowledge and views of OUM students on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is high. Most respondents have good knowledge of the issue. The study results also found that there was a significant relationship between the level of knowledge and the views/opinion. The higher the level of student's knowledge of Palestine-Israel issues, the better their views/opinion on the issue. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that the perception of OUM students on Palestinian-Israeli issues is at a positive level. Therefore, as the voice of the society, students have to move forward in enlightening the Palestine-Israel issue to the public so that the issue can be clearly and precisely understood.
