The main objective of this article is to explain the real purpose of the introduction of health institutions and the role played by the British in the aspect of health development in Perak since the 1880s. The historical method used in this article is based on a qualitative approach referring to primary and secondary sources. References used in this study are primary sources in the form of Colonial Office reports, Perak Annual Report, government gazettes, as well as secondary sources such as books, articles, theses and newspapers. Overall, this article concludes that the introduction of health institutions and hospitals in Perak until the 1930s was implemented in line with British efforts and goals to fully exploit the Perak economy rather than providing healthcare facilities to indigenous communities.
