SCOPE

International Journal of the Malay World and Civilisation is published three times a year by the Institute of the Malay World and Civilisation, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. The primary aim of the journal is to publish research undertaken by scholars and researchers in the field of Malay studies, including science and technology, language and linguistics, traditional and modern literature, history, human habitat and environment, culture and philosophy in the Malay world.

 

MANUSCRIPTS

Manuscripts, in Malay and English, submitted to the journal for publication must be original contributions, and have not been previously published or under consideration for publication elsewhere. They should be typed double-space with wide margins to allow for editorial comments. The first page of the manuscript should contain the title, the author’s name, postal address with postcode and e-mail address. While the manuscript is being processed for publication, be sure to inform the editor of any change in address. The paper passed the plagiarism test with a passing score of <20. Editors reserve the right to edit manuscripts as seem appropriate.

 

ABSTRACTS

Include an abstract in English and Malay of 250-300 words.

 

KEYWORDS

Give 4-5 keywords.

 

NUMBER OF WORDS IN THE PAPER 

Prepare a length of 4000-7000 words.

 

NOTES

Footnotes are not recommended. If absolutely necessary, they should be kept to an absolute minimum and placed as end-notes which must be numbered consecutively.

 

REFERENCES 

  • Using UKM Style (GAYA UKM)
  • References should be listed in the end of the article in alphabetical order. Several references by the same author(s) must be in chronological order. 
  • A journal reference should comprise name(s), initial(s), year of publication, full title of article, title of the journal in italic, the volume number, issue number, the first and last page of the article. Example:
    Winzeler, R.L. 1983. The study of Malay magic. Bijdragen tot de Taal-, Land- en Volkenkunde 39(4): 435-458.
  • A book reference should comprise name(s), initial(s), year, full title in italic, place of publication and publisher. Example

  • A book chapter reference should comprise names(s), initial(s), year, full title of the book chapter, In, name(s) of editor(s), ed. full title of edited book in italic, the first and last page of the book chapter, place of publication, publisher. Example:

  • Unpublished Material/ Thesis: should comprise Name of name of author. Year. Title. Folio number, box number, place of storage, or other identification data, Collection number. Place (institute, town, state) where material is produced/kept, Date. Example:

  • Hadith. Example:

  • All references cited in the text must appear in the References.


APPENDIXES

Samples, questionnaires, technical notes, maps, illustrations, tables and other essential information should be presented in appendixes. Each appendix must be given a title. They are referred to in the text by their labels.


REFEREEING

All manuscripts will be reviewed by the Editorial Board and at least one independent reviewer. The decision regarding the publication of a manuscript is based on their recommendations.
