[ms] Human Will: Justification and Categorization Based on Responsibility

Abstract

This article focuses on connection between ‘will’ and responsibility. This issue is very closely related to free will and human choice, which is widely discussed by Western academics. This discussion also occurred between Muktazilah and al-Asha’irah. The purpose of this paper is to understand the concept of will from all schools of theology and then to determine how far it can be linked to human responsibility. This research is a library research with refering previous and current readings. The methods used are inductive and deductive to understand the concept of will and to describe the meaning of will as responsible or not responsible. Result of this study is to highlight a number of concepts related to will. Some of them should be put under accountability such as when it is at a level of choice, at a stage of desire that already has a permanent will, having intention, a strong desire, will exists together with intellect and will of determination. Likewise, some of them do not have responsibility such as in a conduct of just having the possibility to choose, initiation of desire, no intention, inclination and inspiration.
