Penyertaan kanak-kanak dalam aktiviti luar cuti sekolah: Analisis persepsi ibu bapa (Children’s participation in outdoor activities during school holidays: An analysis of parents’ perceptions)
Abstract

The long school holiday period for children should be filled with beneficial activities. Particularly for working parents, involving children in outdoor activities can help in balancing work and family responsibilities by ensuring children engage in meaningful activities. Considering that participation in school holiday activities requires costs, location, activity suitability, risks, and other factors, these elements significantly influence parental decisions. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the factors influencing parents' choices in deciding their children's participation in outdoor activities during school holidays. A questionnaire instrument was used to gather parents' opinions on identified factors such as organizers, location, communication, fees, trainers, risks, and personal experiences. A total of 744 respondents participated in this study. Multiple regression analysis was applied to examine the influence of the studied variables on parents' willingness related to the topic. The analysis results revealed that all variables were significant. Variables such as location, communication, and fees negatively influenced parents' decisions, whereas trainers, risks, and personal experiences had a positive influence. The study found that parental decisions in selecting outdoor activities for children during school holidays are influenced by various interrelated factors. These findings guide activity organizers in adjusting their programs to be more appealing and relevant to parental needs. Overall, this study offers recommendations for organizers and policymakers to enhance children's participation in outdoor activities by designing programs that are user-friendly, safe, and capable of attracting and instilling confidence in parents. This approach can help to ensure that the school holiday period is optimally utilized for the holistic development of children.
