Nilai simbolik sebagai penunjuk kelestarian modal sosial petempatan tradisional di Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia (Symbolic values as social capital sustainability indicator for traditional settlement in Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia)

Abstract


Pemahaman yang mendalam mengenai nilai warisan bagi petempatan tradisional adalah penting untuk membentuk satu gabungan kerjasama dalam menghasilkan sebuah keputusan yang lebih strategik untuk pemeliharaan sesebuah petempatan tradisional. Hal ini kerana, penilaian nilai warisan dapat membantu dalam mengenal pasti dengan lebih mendalam akan nilai-nilai penting yang menyokong kepada peningkatan perpaduan komuniti. Namun demikian, ancaman-ancaman terhadap persekitaran fizikal di petempatan tradisional yang tidak terbendung dilihat bakal menghakis nilai-nilai warisan sekali gus mengancam kelestarian modal sosial yang telah terbentuk sejak sekian lama. Justeru, dengan menggunakan pendekatan gabungan penyelidikan ini menghurai nilai-nilai warisan penting bagi komuniti tempatan yang terlibat secara langsung serta tidak langsung di Kampung Pulau Duyong, Kuala Terengganu. Hasil dapatan menunjukkan komponen nilaian simbolik memperolehi nilai purata kumulatif yang tertinggi manakala nilaian ekonomi merekodkan nilai purata kumulatif paling rendah berbanding tiga nilai lain yang tersenarai. Nilai simbolik dalam kajian ini menyorot tentang kepentingan cara hidup dan budaya yang terbentuk setiap hari serta mengikut musim telah membentuk sebuah komuniti yang memiliki identiti dan jati diri yang tinggi. Penyelidikan ini turut menyimpulkan bahawa nilai warisan dapat berfungsi sebagai kerangka dalam pelan pemeliharaan petempatan tradisional sekali gus memberi kefahaman terhadap kepentingan warisan ketara dalam memastikan perancangan fizikal yang lebih terancang di masa hadapan.

An in-depth understanding of the heritage value of a traditional settlement is important to form a cooperation coalition in producing a more strategic decision for the preservation of a traditional settlement. This is because the assessments of heritage values can help to identify wider the key values that contribute to the enhancement of the community. However, unstoppable threats to the physical environment in traditional settlements view as will erode heritage values all at once threaten the sustainability of social capital that has been formed for a long time. Therefore, using the integrated approach this research describes important heritage values of the local community that directly or indirectly involved in Kampung Pulau Duyong, Kuala Terengganu. The results showed that the symbolic value component received the highest cumulative average value while the economic value recorded as the lowest cumulative average value compared to the other three listed values. The symbolic value of this study highlights the importance of the way we live and the culture that is formed every day and by seasonal, that created a community which is of high identity and cooperation. This research concludes that heritage value can serve as a framework in traditional settlement preservation plan all at once provide insight into the importance of marked heritage that in ensuring a more planned physical planning in the future.
