Pengajian Agama di Masjid: Ritualisme dan Cabaran Modenisasi Sekular di Malaysia (Religious Education in Mosques: Ritualism and the Challenges of Secular Modernization in Malaysia)

Abstract


Isu utama kajian ini ialah dominasi subjek ritual dan fardu ain dalam subjek pengajian agama di masjid, sedangkan subjek berkaitan isu semasa dan kontemporari kurang diberi perhatian. Fenomena ini dikaitkan dengan kesan pertembungan epistemologi antara agama dan sekularisme yang mewarisi falsafah modenisasi Barat, sehingga agama cenderung terpinggir ke ruang privasi dan simbolik. Objektif kajian adalah untuk menilai pengaruh epistemologi sekularisme terhadap struktur subjek pengajian agama di masjid bandar, mengenal pasti dominasi subjek tradisional berbanding kontemporari, dan mencadangkan model kurikulum yang seimbang antara tradisi dan realiti semasa. Metodologi kajian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan meneliti taburan subjek pengajian agama yang dipaparkan dalam jadual pengajian masjid bandar dan mudah diakses oleh masyarakat. Analisis dilakukan terhadap kategori subjek, kekerapan, dan kecenderungan tema pengajian.Hasil kajian menunjukkan pengajian agama di masjid lebih tertumpu kepada subjek asas dan ritual, manakala pengajian kontemporari yang menyentuh isu sosial, ekonomi, dan cabaran moden masih kurang diberi perhatian. Implikasi kajian ini menekankan keperluan pengurusan hal ehwal Islam memperkukuh subjek pengajian agama yang lebih seimbang, agar peranan agama dapat diperkasa dalam ruang awam dan tidak terpinggir dalam realiti masyarakat moden yang berdepan cabaran sekularisme dan modenisasi.

Abstract: The main issue addressed in this study is the dominance of ritual and fardu ain subjects in mosque-based religious education syllabi, while subjects related to contemporary and current issues receive limited attention. This phenomenon is linked to the epistemological clash between religion and secularism, inherited from Western modernization, which tends to confine religion to private and symbolic spaces.The objective of this study is to assess the influence of secular epistemology on the structure of mosque-based religious education syllabi in urban areas, identify the dominance of traditional subjects over contemporary ones, and propose a curriculum model that balances tradition with current realities. The methodology adopts a qualitative approach by examining the distribution of religious subjects displayed in mosque study schedules that are publicly accessible. The analysis focuses on subject categories, frequency, and thematic tendencies. The findings reveal that mosque-based religious education primarily emphasizes basic and ritual subjects, while contemporary studies addressing social, economic, and modern challenges remain underrepresented. The implications of this study highlight the need for Islamic affairs management to strengthen a more balanced syllabus for mosque-based religious education, ensuring that religion maintains its role in the public sphere and does not become marginalized within the confines of private and ritual spaces in the context of modern society facing secular and modernization challenges.
