Abstract

Family Poverty and Its Influence on Rural Community Low Education: Case Study in Bachok District, Kelantan

ABSTRACT

The low level of education is often associated with people in rural areas. This is because the rural community has constraints in the areas of education, employment and income. The purpose of this study is to study family factors that cause rural communities to be in low level of education. The combination of quantitative methods using questionnaire instruments and qualitative methods of interviews was used for data collection. Questionnaires for 230 respondents in Jelawat, Perupok and Tawang areas in Bachok, Kelantan were conducted. The data obtained from the respondents were analyzed for descriptive information and "ranking analysis" using the Statistical Package for the Social Science 11.0 software. The study found that nearly 40 percent of respondents felt that the main factor affecting the level of primary education in the rural areas was due to the financial factors associated with lower income earned by the head of the family. In addition, the primary education background of the head of the family also affects the achievement of education among their children. But the majority of respondents are aware of the importance of education for their generation. Therefore, the emphasis and the need for opportunities in education, particularly in rural areas, should be strengthened more accurately.
