PENGLIBATAN ADAM MALIK ATAS PENUBUHAN ASEAN (1967-1977) (Involvement of Adam Malik in the Establishment of ASEAN)

Abstract

This paper aims to discuss the involvement of Adam Malik in his capacity as Foreign Minister of Indonesia upon the establishment of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) starting from 1967 to 1977. Adam Malik was one of the founding figures of Indonesia on the formation of the Association of the Southeast Asia or often referred to by ASEAN. The purpose of this paper is to assess the extent of the involvement of Adam Malik over the establishment of ASEAN, where this establishment as pillars of observers to five neighbouring countries-to be able to solve regional problems among Southeast Asia in order to establish peace in the region. This study uses qualitative methods with the use of primary sources and use of secondary sources. Adam Malik had an important role to influence the Indonesian Government to follow as well as in the establishment of ASEAN because of suspicions among President Soeharto was very high in the establishment of this assosiation.
