Submission Guidelines

Editorial policy

All scholars are invited to submit manuscripts to Jurnal Komunikasi, Malaysian Journal of Communication. This journal provides a forum for empirical inquiries on human and mass communication and welcomes conceptual, philosophical, and theoretical essays or debates, book reviews, and essay reviews directly contributing to communication or indirectly affecting it as a discipline. We suggest the following broad areas of research:

  • Globalization and Social Impact
  • Youth and Media Globalisation
  • Audience Analysis
  • Media, Democracy and Integration
  • Media Literacy and Media Education
  • Media and Development
  • Health Communication
  • Politics, Hegemony and the Media

  • Media, Popular Culture and Society
  • Media and Religion
  • Media and Identity
  • War, Conflict and Crisis Communication
  • Strategic Communication and Information Management

Other papers covering the study of any area pertaining to diversities in media and communication are also welcomed. Requests for the publication of special articles may also be arranged.

Manuscript submission

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES FOR JOURNAL MANUSCRIPT 

(Manuscripts that do not adhere to the guidelines will be rejected)

***Important!

  • The title, theme, and content of manuscripts should provide a forum for inquiries on media and mass communication.
  • Manuscript text-body should be between 5000-7000 words only (calculated from INTRODUCTION until CONCLUSION only, excluding abstract, references, author/s biodata, and appendix). Each manuscript must have an abstract (between 200-250 words) and 5 keywords. Manuscripts in Malay must have an abstract and title in English with similar abstract content*** References must be in APA Style and written in the manuscript on a new page at the end of the paper.
  • All manuscripts must be typed in Microsoft Word and single-spaced, Calibri, font 12. Margins are to be set at Normal (2.54cm all around) and paper size at A4 (21 x 29.7cm).
  • Authors are required to send the manuscript in word.docx.
  • Please ensure that 80% of the citations in all the submitted manuscripts must be from sources published in recent years (3 years back from the year the manuscript is written). 
  • To facilitate the blind review process, please ensure that the authors’ names do not appear anywhere in the manuscript or in the filename. Authors’ names, designations, and institutional addresses should be in a separate file.
  • Authors are to check manuscripts for the accuracy of language before submitting them to the journal. The Editorial Board will not edit submitted manuscripts for style or language (Please refer to the template given below)***
  • Manuscripts submitted to Jurnal Komunikasi, Malaysian Journal of Communication must not be under consideration for publication elsewhere, either in electronic or printed form. The corresponding author should declare this when submitting the paper to the Chief Editor.
  • Upon submission of a paper, the author/authors are to provide the editorial board with the names of three reviewers from different institutions, complete with their addresses, designations, and email addresses. Attach this as a supplementary file***
  • Jurnal Komunikasi, Malaysian Journal of Communication retains the right to electronically distribute accepted manuscripts but the authors will retain copyright. If authors wish to republish the article, they must write to the Chief Editor and acknowledge Jurnal Komunikasi, Malaysian Journal of Communication as the original publisher.
  • Authors are expected to carefully proofread their work before submission***
  • The Editorial Board reserves the right to make editorial changes to any manuscript accepted for publication to enhance clarity and style. Endnote and footnote are not encouraged.
  • Manuscripts that do not adhere to any of the SUBMISSION GUIDELINES will not be considered for review.
  • Please attach a brief biodata of all authors as a supplement file (about 50 words)***
  • It is advisable that the name of an author only appears in an issue once a YEAR only.
  • The author or co-author may publish articles in alternate issues only. Publishing in back-to-back issues is not allowed.
  • Please avoid submitting the same paper twice or more in the OJS system! Our journal has the right to reject those submissions even if they fit all the criteria unless we had been notified by the author to withdraw one of the submissions.
