Abstract


Beauveria bassiana (Hypocreales: Cordycipitaceae) ialah kulat entomopatogen yang boleh menjangkiti dan menyebabkan penyakit terhadap pelbagai serangga perosak. Ia boleh dieksploitasi dan dibangunkan sebagai agen kawalan biologi untuk memerangi Kumbang Merah Palma (RPW), Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (Coleoptera: Dryophthoridae), perosak invasif tanaman kelapa di Malaysia. Oleh itu, satu pencilan B. bassiana asli telah diuji kepatogenannya terhadap RPW dewasa dan dirawat di dalam makmal dengan kepekatan larutan ampaian konidia yang berbeza. Pencilan B. bassiana asli menunjukkan sifat kepatogenan dengan 100% kematian dalam masa 21 hari selepas jangkitan diberikan. Peratusan kematian meningkat dengan ketara melalui peningkatan kepekatan konidium, di mana kepekatan tertinggi 1 x 109 konidia per mL mampu menyebabkan kadar kematian tertinggi bagi RPW dewasa berbanding kepekatan yang lebih rendah. Pengecaman morfologi dan jujukan DNA yang diperolehi daripada bangkai RPW yang dijangkiti menunjukkan konidia yang dipencilkan sepadan dengan spesies B. bassiana. Hasil kajian yang diperolehi ini diharapkan dapat memberi pemahaman yang lebih baik berkaitan potensi penggunaan kulat entomapatogen asli yang akan menjadi langkah permulaan kepada pembangunan agen kawalan biologi baharu perosak invasif kelapa di Malaysia.
