A Study of Factors Affecting Performance and Absenteeism Among Employees of a Public Service Organization in Malaysia

Abstract


Satu kajian telah dijalankan untuk menilai pengaruh beberapa faktor psikologi dan organisasi ke atas prestasi dan kedatangan kerja di kalangan sampel kakitangan sesebuah organisasi kerajaan yang berpejabat di Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh, Teluk Intan, Seremban, Melaka dan Kluang. Kajian ini telah mendapati yang menyeliaan secara berpeenyetaan mempunyai pertalian yang kuat dengan kuantiti kerja, tetapi tidak kuat dengan kuantiti dan kedatangan kerja. Komitmen kepada organisasi pula didapati mempunyai pertalian yang signifikan dengan kedatangan kerja, tetapi tidak signifikan dnegan kuantiti dan kualiti kerja.

ABSTRACT

The present study was conducted among groups of employees from  a public service organization in Malaysia with offices in Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh, Teluk Intan, Seremban, Malacca and Kluang. The aim of the study was to investigate the relationships between some selected performance factors and quantity and quality of work, and absenteeism. The results indicated that supervisory participative behavior was significantly related with the quantity of work but not with quality and absenteeism. Job involvemnet, on the other hand, was significantly related with quality of work, but not with quantity of work and absenteeism. Organizational commitment, however, was significantly related with absenteeism, but not with quantity and quality of work
