Persepsi Pelajar Sarjana Muda Fakulti Pendidikan Kuis Terhadap Aplikasi atas Talian Semasa Sesi Pembelajaran PKP (KUIS Faculty of Education Degree Students’ Perceptions towards Online Applications Used in Learning during MCO)

Abstract


ABSTRAK

 

Peralihan pendekatan pendidikan yang bersifat konvensional kepada pendidikan berpusatkan maya atau digital merupakan impak besar Covid-19 kepada struktur pendidikan seluruh dunia. Cabaran pandemik ini juga memberi kesan kepada operasi institusi pengajian tinggi. Operasi pusat pengajian tinggi telah diarahkan ditutup disebabkan oleh peningkatan drastik kes Covid-19 secara keseluruhan di hampir seluruh dunia. Institusi pengajian tinggi di Malaysia juga telah mengambil langkah berjaga-jaga dengan arahan penutupan operasi dan penawaran pengajian secara online atau maya sehingga tahun 2021. Walaupun pendidikan maya dilihat sebagai langkah yang relevan dalam menangani cabaran pendidikan era pandemik, namun pihak universiti juga perlu menilai keberkesanan pendekatan pengajaran dan pembelajaran maya dari aspek aplikasi atas talian yang digunakan. Pemasalahan timbul apabila aplikasi yang digunakan dalam pembelajaran atas talian memerlukan akses jalur lebar besar untuk beroperasi dengan lebih berkesan. Teknologi dan sistem yang bersifat synchronous seperti persidangan video atau asynchronous seperti rakaman video memerlukan kadar pemindahan bit data yang tinggi dan membebankan dari segi kos. Pendekatan dan aplikasi atas talian perlu dipelbagaikan bagi memenuhi keperluan pendidikan berkualiti dan mengatasi masalah dari segi akses serta keberkesanan dalam pengajaran dan pembelajaran. Satu dapatan kajian yang dibuat pada tahun 2020, mendapati bahawa antara aplikasi atas talian yang mudah dan murah untuk digunakan dalam sesi pengajaran dan pembelajaran adalah aplikasi whatsapp dan telegram. Namun begitu, peranan pendidik sebagai pembimbing perlu diperkasakan kerana sesi interaktif yang tidak  terkawal berupaya  menjejaskan  emosi  pelajar  dan  prestasi  akademik . Kajian ini bertujuan mengkaji persepsi pelajar Sarjana Muda di Fakulti Pendidikan, KUIS berkaitan penggunaan aplikasi atas talian dalam sesi pengajaran dan pembelajaran sepanjang sesi pengajian semasa era PKP, di mana majoriti pelajar di Fakulri Pendidikan KUIS lebih cenderung kepada penggunaan aplikasi google meet, zoom dan google classroom. Namun begitu, aspek seperti kekangan dari segi gajet ,akses serta capaian internet juga perlu diberi perhatian bagi pembelajaran yang bersifat atas talian hybrid pada masa akan datang.

ABSTRACT

 

Covid-19 pandemic has impacted gravely on the world structure of education, which has caused a transition from conventional education approach to online or digital education. Higher learning institutions are also affected by this new phenomenon. Almost all higher learning institutions were directed to close operations or operate partially due to the increase in the number of cases throughout the world. Higher learning institutions in Malaysia have also taken a drastic action by offering online programs to adhere with the closure instruction of operations until 31st December 2020 by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia, and this has continued to the year 2021. Although the step taken by higher learning institutions in  dealing with the pandemic education era can be seen as relevant, universities need to assess the effectiveness of the online or virtual teaching and learning approaches used especially in the aspect of online applications. Issues occur when the online applications used in online learning require a broadband access to operate effectively. Technology and system of synchronous type like videoconferencing or asynchronous such as video recordings require a higher data bit which may be burdening in term of cost. Approaches and online applications need to be varied in order to fulfill the needs of quality education and solve issues related to access and effectiveness of the overall teaching and learning. A research done in the year 2020 found that whatsapp and telegram applications are among the cheapest and easiest online applications being used in teaching and learning sessions. However, the role of educators needs to be enhanced in ensuring a relevant control since a disorganized interactive session could lead to emotional distress and decrease in academic performance among students. This study examined KUIS Faculty of Education degree students’ perceptions towards the usage of online applications in teaching and learning sessions during the Movement Control Order (MCO), which has shown a variety of new applications being used such as google meet, zoom google classroom, whatsapp, telegram, and youtube. The findings have shown that most Faculty of Education students preferred to use applications such as google meet, zoom and google classroom as the mediums of learning. However, a  few aspects of concerns should be taken into considerations such as limitations in the forms of gadgets, and internet access for online or hybrid learning activities in the future.
