MEMAHAMI TAFSIRAN PERKATAAN “AL-ISLĀM” PERSPEKTIF MUHAMMAD ASAD DALAM “THE MESSAGE OF THE QURĀN” (Understanding Interpretation of “Islam” from Muhammad Asad’s Perspective in “The Message of the Qurān”)

Abstract


ABSTRAK

Islam telah disepakati oleh para ulama Ahli Sunah Waljamaah sebagai satu nama agama yang diiktiraf kebenarannya secara mutlak dan satu-satunya agama yang diterima di sisi Allah SWT (eksklusif). Namun bagi Muhammad Asad, beliau mentafsirkan Islam dengan cara yang berbeza daripada tafsiran muktabar. Muhammad Asad mentafsirkan Islam sebagai penyerahan diri kepada tuhan (self surrender to God) dengan makna bahasa secara generik. Kajian analitikal deskriptif ini menggunakan kaedah analisis kandungan dengan menganalisa terjemahan dan huraian Muhammad Asad terhadap nas-nas al-Quran yang mengandungi perkataan Islam untuk memahami tafsiran Islam perspektif beliau dalam karyanya, The Message of the Qur’ān dan memberikan ulasan kritikal terhadap idea beliau. Tafsiran Islam perspektif Muhammad Asad didapati menjurus kepada fahaman pluralisme agama kerana mengiktiraf kebenaran semua agama monoteisme.

ABSTRACT

Islam has been agreed unanimously by all scholars of Ahli Sunah Waljamaah as a name of religion which is recognized as the absolute truth and the only religion accepted by Allah SWT (exclusive). As for Muhammad Asad nonetheless, he has interpreted Islam which is different from the mu’tabar group of interpretation. Muhammad Asad interpreted Islam as a self-surrender to God with generic language meaning. This analitical descriptive study applied content analysis method by analyzing the interpretation of Islam from Muhammad Asad’s perspective on relevant texts that contained the term Islam in his work of interpretation entitled The Message of the Qur’ān and pointed out some critical views towards his idea. The findings suggest that the interpretation of Islam from Muhammad Asad’s perspective has led to religious pluralism ideology because of recognition of truth to all monotheistic religions.
