E-Waste Recycling in Developed and Developing Countries: A Comparative Analysis

Abstract


Electrical and electronic solid waste (e-waste) is one of the types of solid waste that is difficult to dispose of.  It can be said that it exists in all countries and indirectly becomes a major issue for countries around the world, especially in managing, controlling generation, reusing, enforcing laws and policies, and the final method of disposal.  In addition, this writing will look at the generation of e-waste solid waste for the top ten producing countries.  Furthermore, this article will show the development of e-waste solid waste management in Japan and Malaysia, which are used as examples of comparison between developed and developing countries.  It encompasses five main sections consisting of matters such as the first involving the introduction, followed by the second section which revolves around the differences in terms of legal and enforcement aspects, the third is related to infrastructure facilities, the fourth section is public awareness and the role of the private sector which also describes related challenges, and the fifth section is on areas for improvement, suggestions, and conclusion.
