Abstract

Broadcasting is a mean of mobilization for promoting development for most of the African countries especially Egypt. The history of vertical communication technology is proven to be an effective medium of development and growth of the politics, economy and socio-culture of the Egyptian society. In tandem with the essence of dakwah, enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong, the role of television is deemed as the most optimistic medium viewed from a more comprehensive and innovative context. The objectives of this article then were to identify the dakwah messages in the dramas being broadcast in Channel 1 Egypt TV and to explain the viewers’ perception regarding these messages. To analyze the data, tools and research methodologies systematically combined accordance to the objectives of the study. Out of three samples of Egyptian television dramas and a hundred respondents who did the survey, it was found that the dakwah messages had been implicitly and explicitly inculcated in the dramas. Those messages were positively received among the respondents. The findings have shown that there was a high mean in the survey items to add knowledge (3.69), new knowledge (3.91), religious consciousness (3.63). The study also found that the overall mean value (3.52) was just average. Based on the findings, we suggest that the messages of dakwah in dramas should also be included in the form of a brief text at the end of the dramas so as to explain the underlying meanings and strengthen the explicit messages.
