Abstract

Abstract

Emotions related to the need to write and publish in journals are love, fear, anxiety and despair. Regulation of these 4 emotions is essential to the success of a journal writing and publication. The purpose of this study is to examine how academics can regulate emotions as they better understand the process of writing and publishing in journals and also the skills they need in such process. Therefore, this research paper aims to evaluate the journal articles and books on journal writing and publishing from year 2000 to 2018. A total of 16 journal articles and 8 books written by global academics were evaluated to identify the requirements for writing and publishing, content of high-impact journal articles and their role in the academic’s career. The data were analysed thematically by focussing on 4 skills, namely reading, doing research, writing and publishing skills. The findings revealed that writing journal articles was not a daunting task, but academics must succeed in regulating emotions by mastering the techniques and styles of effective academic writing. Further improvement in mastery of these 4 skills could contribute to the dissemination of research findings worldwide. This suggestion contributes to the capacity of emotion regulation by instilling love for writing and publishing in journals. In addition, the proposed follow-up study is to investigate the practical point of view regarding love for journal writing and publishing.
