SUBMISSION PROCEDURE

The journal publishes articles in both Malay and English. Articles submitted to the journal for publication should be original contributions and must not have been previously published or under consideration by any other publications. It must be in Microsoft Word file and submitted through the online system. The full names, affiliations, phone numbers, current e-mail addresses and a short biographical note of all authors should appear on a separate cover page and submitted as a supplementary file. The corresponding author is the submitter of the article. All co-authors must register with the online system and the submitter needs to fill in the metadata of each co-authors. While an article is under consideration, it is the responsibility of the corresponding author to inform the editor of any change of address. The article ID with a hash, e.g. #12345 should be stated in all correspondence with the editor. User guides for authors (as well as reviewers) are available at the homepage for download.

FORMAT AND STYLE

The length of an article should be between 5,000 and 7,000 words excluding references. The title should be concise, descriptive and not exceeding 15 words. All articles must have a title and abstract in English and Malay. Articles written in English must have been proofread and have a satisfactory command of academic English. An abstract should describe its main points within 200-250 words. The abstract should be followed by 5 keywords (separated by semi-colon) that identifies the article's content for retrieval systems. All illustrations, including figures, charts and graphs, must be labeled and placed within the text at appropriate points, rather than at the end. The desired placement in the text should be clearly indicated. All illustrations should be referred to, numbered systematically, and are camera ready. Akademika uses the author-date system. References in the text should be denoted by giving the name(s) of the author(s) with the year of publication. All cited references must appear and ordered alphabetically in the list of references at the end of the manuscripts. A minimum number of 15 and a maximum number of 30 significant references should be cited. About 30% of the references should be journal articles. A few references should be current i.e. within the last 3 years. References must conform to UKM Press House Style (See the link for Formatting of References). If you are using EndNote or other referencing software, the field codes for the references must be removed before submitting the article. Footnoted information and appendices should only be used if they are absolutely necessary. The footnote should be appropriately marked in the text and placed after acknowledgement (if there is any) and before the list of references.

REVIEW PROCESS

Articles will be peer-reviewed by a minimum of two reviewers (double blind). Decisions regarding the publication of an article will be based on the Editorial Board’s recommendations. The article will be evaluated based on its appropriateness for Akademika, contribution to the discipline, cogency of analysis, conceptual breadth, clarity of presentation, and technical adequacy. To ensure that articles are evaluated solely on their merit, the author(s)’ identity is concealed from reviewers during the review process. Articles submitted by members of the journal’s Editorial Board are subjected to the same review process.  All authors are expected to revise their articles promptly after receiving reports from the reviewers.
